Stone selection

The options for stone selection is vast with stone extracted and manufactured worldwide.

We can advise on suitability of particular stones for their intended use.

Criteria for selection may include durability, available stone panel dimensions, availability of quantity, mechanical properties, durability, colour, texture, appearance, environmental impact, cost.

Construction Methods

We can advise on methods of construction to enable the building designer to consider all options and the benefits accordingly.

The methods of construction can have significant implications for the design and performance of the building as a whole.

Manufacture & Procurement

We have full manufacturing facilities in the centre of the worlds stone industry in Carrara  Italy.

We also procure stone world wide and have long term relationships with quarriers and facbricators in Italy, Spain, Germany, Greece, USA & China as well as UK.

We are shareholders in the  "Piatra Alba" Limestone quarry in Romania used for the facades of the famous "Casa  Popului" (Peoples Palace) built for President Ceaucescu in Buccharest.

Our extensice knowledge of the most commerially used Stones worldwide ensures that we are able to obtain the best quality materials at the most competitive rates.

Our inpectors ensure that all stone shipped confirms to the specified quality standards.

All marble work is dry layed at factory prior to shipping to ensure the highest quality is acheived.

Design & Engineering

The key to a successful project is good design.

Our multi-disciplnary team bring a wealth of experience from backgrounds of stone masonry, architecture, structural engineering and facade engineering.

Our creative team have been pioneering the use of stone and it's applications for decades.

There is continued demand for increased value form building facades to be more energy efficient, lighter, slimmer and faster to install. These demands are met by continued innovation of stone design and engineering.

We are equiped with CAD, CADCAM, Finite Element Analysis and thermal simulation software. 

Our indepth knowledge of past methods of stone construction enables us to conserve and restore exisiting stonework.

Project Management & Installation

Meticulous design,  planning,  training and quality management ensures that we deliver projects on time, safely and on budget.

We ensure consistancy in performance by adhereing to our Quality plan specifcically developed for stone constracting.

This ensures that we analyse the work at all stages from quarry to finshed product.

Our aim is to "off site manufacture" and "avoid manual handling" as much as possible. These are two important factors which avoids damage and improves the quality of the finished product.

We only employ experienced masons in the installation of our stonework.

All OConnor Stone project managers are  CITB SMSTS trained.

Our independent safety consultants review all projects and report directly the board.
